Originally a radio play, this stage adaptation followed the inhabitants of the fictional Welsh town of Llareggub over a sleepy 24 hours. Guided through our production by the author himself, both as a young man amongst the members of the village and as the author at his writing desk, the audience bears witness to the enthralling blend of dreams, reality and poetry that makes Under Milk Wood such an iconic and memorable experience.
We shared in the fears, dreams and fantasies of Captain Cat, retired blind sea captain, who lusts after his lost love, the ghostly Rosie Probert. Meanwhile the children scampered and played in the streets, past the community hall where Polly Garter scrubbed the hall floor and dreams of babies, while the women of the town gossiped about her in whispers. Inside the quaint houses under the hill, Mrs Willy Nilly steamed open the mail to read the secret goings-on of the town, whilst Mr Pugh plotted to poison his venomous wife over dinner…
