The Foreigner

by Larry Shue

The Lane End Players’ spring production for 2012 will be ‘The Foreigner’ by Larry Shue.

Trying to forget his marital problems, dull and doleful Charlie Baker takes a fishing-lodge holiday in the Deep South of America, and to avoid being pestered by the locals, pretends that he is a foreigner who speaks no English.

This leads him to become unwittingly involved in bizarre goings-on including a dubious preacher, his pregnant girlfriend, her non-too-bright kid brother and a contingent of less-than-welcoming locals.

The Foreigner was the last play written by American dramatist Larry Shue, and has enjoyed successful runs on both sides of the Atlantic.
